Cognitive Systems in Cybersecurity: Threat Detection and Response

How it works
Cognitive cybersecurity platforms process telemetry from endpoint detection and response (EDR) agents, security information and event management (SIEM) aggregators, network traffic analyzers, and identity providers. The processing pipeline typically proceeds through four discrete phases:
- Ingestion and normalization — Raw log events, packet captures, and behavioral telemetry are parsed into a common schema. Enterprise environments routinely generate tens of billions of log events per day, making schema normalization a prerequisite for any downstream inference.

Common scenarios
Cognitive systems are deployed across three primary cybersecurity scenarios:
Insider threat detection — Behavioral baselines for individual users and service accounts are constructed over rolling time windows.
